HIGHLIGHTS
John graduated from university in 1967 with a dream to build a superior racing facility in his home town and that he did, Riverside Speedway in James River.
The first green flag waved at Riverside in 1969. John started racing himself in 1972 until 1978. John drove cars built by Holman Moody, Bobby Allison and Ed Howe.
In 1972 he raced at Ontario’s Cayuga International Speedway in the first Export “A” NASCAR race.
1975 he had one of the Export “A” Series races at Riverside. For this race he brought in the Daytona winner, Benny Parsons, to drive his ’72 Chevelle.
John was a dominant driver in the modified class.
In 1989 he sold Riverside, buying it back in 2005 to put it back on the racing map. The reconstruction created a state-of-the-art facility.
The facility hosts such events as the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.
What John has done for Maritime stock car racing is unbelievable.
